The Maryland Zoo

On December 6th and 7th, Lorenz Inc. employees joined Maryland Zoo staff Sheryl Heydt - Director of Horticulture, and Kristi Giles - Volunteer Manager, to clear vines, ivy, weed trees, and other invasives taking over Waterfowl Lake and the surrounding fenceline.

Lorenz employees spent two days working with Zoo volunteers and cleared over 50 tons of debris!  It was a chilly couple of days, and the guys wrapped up their service with a great tour of the zoo!

Towson Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving morning, The Y of Central Maryland hosted a 5k run and walk to benefit the Safe Place for Kids Annual Campaign at the Towson YMCA.  Freezing cold 29 degree temperatures, rain, and hail did not deter Team Lorenz. It was a great day and our high spirits kept us warm!

Giving back

Grateful to our customers and good fortune as a company, Lorenz Inc. gives back to the community.  To honor the 150th anniversary of Druid Hill Park, this year's company service day focused our attentions on Druid Hill and Riverside Parks.  Our crews removed invasive plants from the Zoo perimeter and Taylor's Grove, mulched trees by Druid Lake, cleaned flower beds, and removed leaves.
Surplus leaves are removed to keep the grass in good condition.  Too many of them can suffocate and kill the grass.

Mount Royal Terrace Project

In partnership with the Historic Mount Royal District, Lorenz Inc. donated their services to the HMRD Mount Royal Terrace Project.  The project was funded by a Partnership for Parks Grant.  This large median, which serves as a park space for the community divides the Terrace and the Jones Falls Expressway.  Much of the area has been largely obscured by invasives.  On Thursday, November 4th, Lorenz Inc. employees assist neighborhood green guy, Calvin Buikema and other neighbors, as they clear the area of the unwanted invaders.
